MEASURING - GROUND PREPARATION - FERTILIZING
Measuring - The easiest way to measure is to take the length and width of the area, and then multiply together, this gives you your total square footage. If your area is irregular shaped (see ex.), such as kidney shaped, then you need to break it down into smaller squares and rectangles and then measure the length times the width of each square and rectangle and add up each area. This gives you your total square footage. It's best to order a little extra to allow for cutting, etc. All orders under 500 sq ft, is an additional charge of $65.00.

Measuring for Irregular Shaped Areas.
Ground Prep and Grading - Install sprinkler system with automatic timer. They save both water and time. Make sure all the trenches are settled (it's best to have all the trenches at least a week before installing your sod, you want the soil dry before installing). Then proceed with grading. This is one of the most important steps, keep in mind that sod is a total of about 2", 1" of grass and 1" of soil/roots.

Grading - Remove all debrs (large dirt clods, rocks, weeds) from soil. Rake into smooth even grade. If your soil is extremely rock and compacted, we recommend that you add 1 bag of mulch for every 300 sq ft and gypsum (1-40# bag for every 1000 sq ft) and rototill into soil at a depth of 2 to 4 inches, then rake into smooth even grade.

Fertilizer - Add fertilizer on final graded soil with fertilize/seeder spreader. Once grass has been established, fertilize every 6 to 8 weeks, important in hot summer months.
