GREEN VALLEY SOD is a family-owned business that was established in 1985. Our company has been providing year round, high-quality hybrid grasses for over 20 years. Along with providing quality hybrid grasses, we also offer a top-notch sod installation service! These proven grasses have been bred and cross-bred to withstand our intense summer months. Hybrid grasses, come in several varieties, Tifgreen, Santa Ana, Tifway and Midiron. Not only do these "carpet" like grasses provide durability and a nice texture to walk on, they are also pollen free (hybrids are sterile and produce no seed heads). In the winter months, the hybrid-grasses go dormant, but in mid-October the sod farms overseed with a fine-bladed "perennial" (in this case, perennial is an easier maintenance, quality fine-bladed variety, annual rye grass is a low-quality, thick bladed variety) rye to provide a beautiful green lawn for the winter months. When the spring temperatures reach 65 degrees at night, the overseeded winter rye grass will slowly go away and the summer hybrid grasses will come out of its dormant state and will green up each spring/summer. Unfortunately, there are no grasses that will stay green year round.
